Mr. Verdell Mitchell is a well-rounded and seasoned Special Event Executive Producer and Promoter. As the owner/operator of MPACT Marketing Enterprises, Mr. Mitchell has consistently and continuously developed, created, marketed, and promoted unique special event properties such as the highly successful Atlanta Youth Football Championship. Accordingly, Mr. Mitchell has provided marketing and production consulting services for some of the country’s largest Special Event properties, such as the Atlanta Football Classic, the Often Imitated, Never Duplicated Original Battle of The Bands Tour, the Miami Bowl High School Football Classic and National Championship, the Peach State Football Classic, and the Super ShowDown High School Football Classic (the Super ShowDown is a series of high school football special event properties) to name a few. Mr. Mitchell is well-known and respected around the country for promoting and creating high-quality family entertainment and sports-related Special Events. Mr. Mitchell is a military veteran with crucial expertise in logistics for event/game day venue operations/production staffing/personnel deployment, reconciliation, and settlement.

The Milestone Marketing and Distribution Group (MMDG) is a Special Event Marketing and Production firm providing consulting services for live, unique, event-oriented properties, including sporting and entertainment properties. MMDG works with today’s sports and entertainment leaders and executives to address their most significant challenges, from increasing attendance and reducing operation and production liability (expenses) to maximizing revenues (specifically gate and rights fees).

Mr. Eugene Gilbert is a well-seasoned Producer and Promoter of Special Event properties. As the Owner/Operator of MMDG, Mr. Gilbert has consistently innovated, operated, produced, and provided marketing consulting services for some of the largest special event properties in the Nation. Whether it is an MMDG-owned Special Event property or a Special Event property where MMDG is providing consulting services, MMDG delivers positive, WINNING results. The MMDG is a FULL-SERVICE FIRM dedicated to serving the needs of a wide range of clients in the special events business. The MMDG, over the years is nationally respected for marketing and producing quality family and sports-oriented events such as the Original Battle of The Bands Tour, Drumline Live, the UniverSoul Circus, the BURN: Music, Food and Art TASTE Festival, the Kappa Luau Festival, the Super ShowDown High School Football Classic, the Heritage Bowl, the Atlanta Football Classic, the Florida Classic, and the Peach State Football Classic, to name a few.
The key to Mr. Gilbert’s longevity is his ability to produce, own, and operate special event properties, such as MMDG’s signature property, the Often Imitated, Never Duplicated—Original Battle of the Bands (OBOTB). The Battle of The Bands was produced and promoted by Mr. Eugene Gilbert of MMDG first on Sunday, October 9, 1994, at Georgia Institute of Technology at Bobby Dodd Stadium in front of 40,000 near-packed stadium of rain-soaked spectators. It is well documented that Mr. Gilbert is recognized and credited as creating the Battle of Bands in the instrumental music industry, especially within the Historically Black College and University marching band community. Mr. Gilbert changed the name to the Original Battle of The Bands in 1998 due to the onslaught of what the youth of the day would refer to the other Battle of The Bands as “IMITATION BATTLE OF THE BANDS", which were all attempting to capitalize on the popularity and success of Mr. Gilbert’s musical creation.
30th ANNIVERSARY OF THE ORIGINAL BATTLE OF THE BANDS TOUR Over the decades, MMDG has successfully organized and promoted HUNDREDS OF TIMES in nearly every city in the United States, particularly the South, where you have a significant African American population. And in some of the Nation’s most iconic stadiums, such as the Astro Dome in Houston, Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta, Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Orange Bowl in Miami, RFK Stadium in Washington DC, Superdome in New Orleans, and War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock to name a few stadiums and cities. In most cases, the OBOTB would achieve near-capacity crowds, often rivaling the attendances of major HBCU Football Classics such as the Atlanta Football Classic, Bayou Classic, Florida Classic, Magic City Classic, and the Peach State Classic, to name a few.
The Original Battle of The Bands Gives Back Millions Synergistically, the OBOTB features dynamic HBCU marching bands, talented high school marching bands, community dance teams, DJs, performers, and R&B entertainers to produce a stellar family-oriented experience like no other! With an ambiance reminiscent of the world’s greatest halftime shows, the OBOTB is an excellent opportunity for some of the Nation’s most talented young adults to exhibit their unique marching band styles. The OBOTB is a powerful and positive community-based special event property. Not only does it provide excellent family entertainment, but it is also a massive FUNDRAISER for participating marching bands. By selling tickets to the OBOTB, marching bands can keep a $5.00 to $10.00 commission for every ticket sold through their program or booster support organization. Since its inception in 1994, the OBOTB has generated MILLIONS OF DOLLARS for participating high schools, college marching bands, and community-based organizations.
The OBOTB has generated excitement and popularity worldwide since its debut in 1994 on the campus of Georgia Institute of Technology at Bobby Dodd Stadium in a near-packed stadium of 40,000 rain-soaked marching band enthusiasts and in near-sold-out crowds in many cities throughout the Nation to this very day. The OBOTB is the largest marching band-oriented special event property in the world. Due to its popularity, the world-renowned mega movie studio Twentieth Century Fox retained MMDG staff as the exclusive music and marching band consultant for its 2002/2003 worldwide smash hit marching band movie, Drumline.
Mr. Gilbert, a lifelong avid percussionist, was a member and snare drummer in the Often Imitated, Never Duplicated World Famous Florida A&M University “Marching 100.” In addition to being known as the creator of the Battle of the Bands, Mr. Gilbert is considered in many circles the real inspiration behind the Twentieth Century Fox 2002/2003 worldwide smash hit and is now considered a cult favorite movie “Drumline".
Year to date, Mr. Gilbert has produced the OBOTB hundreds of times in twenty different cities, thereby entertaining MILLIONS of marching band enthusiasts.
